3 Commercial Roof and Flat Roofing Options
When it comes to choosing commercial roof and flat roofing options, there are a lot of choices. In this article, we will discuss the three most popular commercial roofing options.
1. TPO Commercial Roof
TPO is one the most popular of the commercial roof and flat roofing options. It is estimated that forty percent of commercials roofs in North America are TPO. Which stands for Thermoplastic Polyolefin, it’s a rubber membrane that’s applied to the wood of a roof to weatherproof it. TPO will generally last for twenty-two to thirty years. TPO is the cheapest of the three, which is one of its greatest positive attributes.
2. EPDM Commercial Roof
Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer (EPDM) is a durable commercial roof and flat roofing option. It’s estimated that twenty-two percent of commercial roofs in North America utilize this roofing material. EPDM is a rubber composite but it’s different because it is created from oil and natural gas and boasts a slightly longer lifespan. It has been known to last for twenty-five to thirty years, which can be attributed to its slightly higher price tag and durability.
3. PVC systems
PVC Systems are made up of a system of multiple materials including asphalt and gravel that enable this flat roof type to be extremely durable. The downside is the high level of manpower and hours that go into installing one of these roofs. Due to the multiple pieces involved in this roofs construction, there is a lot of room for human error. If it’s well built, a PVC roof system can last upwards of fifty years; however, if it’s not installed properly, it could last as little as fifteen years!
